New Year, New Project

I spent the Holidays visiting with family, and had a wonderful time. Although I took Joy and Peace with me, I didn't get much stitching done. Now I have to figure out which bag Joy and Peace landed in, I haven't seen it since I got back home.

My project for this year is Strawberry Lace, A Sewing Case, by Diane Clements. Along with the case there are accessories, a scissor fob, pincushion, and needlebook.

One focal point of the project is the Reticello square of strawberries on the front. After a stitching friend did all of the basting and prep work for the lace square, she decided she didn't want to tackle the project. So I inherited this kit. Though I see the benefits of basting, I hate basting and avoid it whenever possible. I was super excited so see that my friend had completed all of the basting before she passed the kit on, I started working on this project as my New Year's start. I couldn't make up my mind where to begin. I want to work a practice piece before starting the lace, the needlebook  has some reversible cross stitch areas, that's not something I do very often either. So I moved on to the needle pages. The 4 sided stitch around both needle pages are now complete  and the front of the scissor fob has been started. It's not looking like much now but it's a start.

My stitched needle pages.

what a fantastic project you got from a friend. A friend in my EGA chapter did a huge class piece with Diane Clements and her reticello was exquisite. Their practice piece was something she cleverly turned into a name tag. I also hate basting and I see no need at all for reversible cross stitch - who sees the trouble you went to unless it is mounted in two sided glass - NOT - I will never agonize over that again nor will I ever attempt cross stitch over 3 threads - that was hateful too ! Sorry this posts sounds negative - I meant it to be humorous and I hope you can relate - Hope January is good to you ! Mel

@woolwoman , Our stitching should be enjoyable. We aren't going to like all stitches or techniques. :-)

Thank you for taking part in GG this month.
This was a double gift, she gave you the kit and she did all the boring stuff for you. What a great friend!
Looking forward to seeing this one finished.
